Film & TV Language: Cinematography blog tasks

1) Write an analysis of the cinematography in the opening sequence. Highlight your use of media language and try to cover camera shots, angles and movement using the terminology we have learned in lessons.

There were multiple slow moving/still shots that were designed to help create tension in the beginning of the video, After kyle enters the room I used a multitude of moving shots (with a large variety of medium and close up shots) to completely throw off the viewers (and to add comedic effect). In the very beginning an establishing and long shot were used in order to show the viewers where they are.

2) How does the camerawork give the audience clues about the setting, narrative and character?

I tried to imitate the camerawork of famous animes (some of which include boku no hero and attack on titan) I believe that this gives off an upbeat atmosphere to the video. The shots also help clearly show that there is tension between the two main characters.
3) Find and analyse four film or TV stills. Embed the images in your blog and analyse the camera shot/angle and what they communicate to the audience.

From Harry potter and the deathly hallows

The still uses a medium shot at a very slight bellow angle to show that harry potter is a powerful character and is currently in battle. The medium shot also helps create an emotional connection with the character and the audience.

From Avengers Infinity war:

The above text is a medium two shot, the distance of the shot creates a confrontational angle, you can clearly see that there is a discussion happening here. This is also shot at a low angle, this is done deliberately to make the characters seem powerful.

Chris Evans in Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

From Avengers Infinity war

Middle shot from a low angle, this image is quite similar to the previous photo in the sense that the angling of the shot makes him look more powerful, the framing is also done to make him seem more lonely.

From Avengers Infinity war

Close up shot of main character, while the angling of the previous photo is the same, the colour grading and the framing makes him look more devious and powerful
