Lighting Blog Task

Low key lighting is used in this still image, no top, under and back lighting was used only a filler light which is focused on the side of her face to create the atmosphere of mystery and deception. The filler light on the side of her face also creates multiple shadows on the other side of her face which create the idea that the woman possibly prefers to keep her identify hidden from other people. This image creates the impression that this woman is not to be trusted and is mischievous due to the dark lighting and the plain expression on her face. Smoke illuminated by the light also suggests that this person is not to be trusted and gives the impression that this woman could be seen as a 'rebel' or an antagonist.

In this image low-key lighting is also used. Top lighting is the only light used to emphasise and highlight the key features of the persons face, for example her cheek bones are highlighted and stand out due to the top lighting. The no back light and dark background create the effect of horror and thriller as the woman is surrounded by darkness alone. The limited light is focused on the woman's face as well as the wall beside her. The light allows the audience to barely be able to see the woman's fingers on her face which give multiple connotations of glamour but also loneliness; it's an interesting contrast.

In this image high-key lighting was used. Filler lights and back lights were used to create light shadows around his face. The back light was used to create slight shadows around the mans face whilst also allowing us to see his face, this lighting gives a very menacing and powerful aura around the main figure.

This image has low-key lighting and only filler lights where used in this image. Top light was used in this image to emphasise the rain dropping down onto the mans shoulders and to highlight the gun. Filler lights used on the side of the mans face creates shadows around the second half of his face, hiding it from the audience. The light emphasises and reflected of the gun which makes it stand out in the dark background. This image creates a stereotypical action vibe, but it also gives off a thriller atmosphere as well, this is done by the gun being the main focus of this image along with the man himself

This image uses low key lighting, however it uses very bright filler lights to create a large shadow of the woman which is emphasised as it is reflected of the plain white wall. Filler lights where used on the side of the woman's face to create these shadows which give connotations of horror and thriller. The use of this filler light shows that the woman is trapped in a corner as the light creates shadows that overlap and appear on the woman.

In this image low key lighting was used. Filler lights were used on the side of the couple to create cracks within the blinds which reflect back onto the couple. The use of not using back lighting in this image creates the effect of romance and secrecy as it makes the light that is coming in through the window more visible and the main focus of this shot. The dark clothing of the man blends in with the dark background making his face and the woman the main focus of this shot as only his face is clearly visible.

This image is also low key lighting and only uses the back light to create a huge silhouette which highlights the outline of the 4 men standing at the entrance of a tunnel. The back light used creates shadows around the men's faces, hiding their identity and only showing their silhouette. This gives connotations of mystery and crime as the men are kept hidden by the light which is the opposite to normal stereotypes as most people would consider criminal activity with darkness and night whilst this picture is the opposite and in fact hides these men under the light.

This image uses low key lighting as the image contains a lot of shadows and only has the key light shining from an angle which creates these shadows. The key light is shining on the left side of the woman which creates the shadow of her face on the wall. It also keeps the woman's other side of her face in the darkness which could imply that this image was taken from a horror/thriller movie. The bright key light that shines on the woman also shines on the wall making it look extremely bright which makes the shadow of the woman stand out. besides the lighting, the image has a slight grain effect on it, whether or not that was an intentional effect added to the photo, or a limitation of the technology from the time of the photo, effect adds a significant feeling of dread, shock and horror.

This image uses high key lighting as it uses the key light and multiple other filler lights. The main key light shines on the woman and onto her clothing, the top light which mainly focuses on the right side of her face highlights the woman's key facial features whilst also keeping the other side slightly dark which could mean that this woman is in distress, but the pose of the actor also gives a feeling of almost gratitude. This creates a dramatic atmosphere as the lighting only highlights key features of the woman whilst also slightly maintaining other hidden features.

This image uses low key lighting as it uses very minimal lighting to highlight key aspects of this shot. The back lighting uses through the door highlights the mans face and knife that he is holding. The light is also shining through the cracks on the stairs to set the scene which allows the audience to acknowledge the environment. The light reflected of the knife and face also allow the audience to see that the man is a threat and extremely dangerous. The lighting creates a feeling of horror due to the minimal and absent feeling of the picture, the fact that the main figure is the only figure in the image, it also creates a feeling of loneliness

This image uses high key lighting to make the image seem more 'realistic'. Filler lights where used on the right side of the image to show the couples key features whilst creating a shadow behind the woman, making her look suspicious and untrustworthy. Top lighting was used her to show off the couples facial features and facial expressions. This creates a sense of mystery and drama.
